about Mike
After almost
twenty years on the Mesquite City Council,
including the past ten years as Mayor, Mike
Anderson announced that he will run as a
Republican for State Representative.
As Mayor, Anderson focused on fighting crime
and bringing new economic development to the
area. During his time in office, Mesquite
was named by Money Magazine as the "Safest
City in Texas." Anderson established the
Citizens Police and Fire Academies. This
year Mesquite received the "Outstanding
Crime Prevention Agency" award for the
second time. Anderson lowered taxes for
seniors by raising the Senior Citizen
property tax exemption and then four years
later Anderson set a tax ceiling for
seniors. Anderson, recognizing that
government can't solve all problems,
initiated "Addressing Mesquite Day" which
has become an annual tradition and has grown
into a community wide program of citizens
helping citizens involving over 30 churches
and civic organizations and hundreds of
volunteers. Anderson has worked to protect
and enhance the quality of life for the
citizens while improving the city's
financial position and its bond rating.
Mike knows that
when you focus on a problem you can solve
it.
The Texas
Legislature needs Mike. The Legislature has
struggled to solve difficult problems like
funding Texas education, keeping the Texas
economy strong by lowering taxes and
fighting crime. As Mayor, Mike has proven
that he is a strong, effective leader and a
problem solver. Mike will take these skills
to Austin and use them to find positive
solutions to these and other challenges
facing the Texas Legislature.
Mike will be a
great asset to our area. |
